Ardent readers will know that Pray for Sound is my son’s band (guitarist). As I mentioned previously:
“Pray For Sound is an American post-rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Forming in late 2012, the quintet developed an inimitable chemistry, playing numerous stages in the United States, Canada, Europe, and China.”
As to the latter, I hope to collaborate soon with my son on a post about their interesting experiences in Asia. I don’t think any band I was ever in played further than a 1/2 hour drive from our houses .
“PFS’ sound ranges from lush, ambient soundscapes to crushing metal riffs and everything in between. Live shows with Pray For Sound promise a loud, cathartic explosion of instrumental rock, coupled with an intense synchronized light show.”
I’d hoped to attend their album release party the other night but alas, I missed it. So I gave the album a listen as dutiful dads do.
I like the word “lush” that came up in the above description. While post-rock doesn’t have much in common with jazz, I would not be wrong I think in describing it as rich in sound. Hypnotic, even.
Here’s “Paratrooper”
Inside sources tell me that the title Nightswimming has nothing to do with the R.E.M. tune.
The last tune I’ll feature here is the longest one, “Dorsia.” (Spotify link below). A wash of sound. Alternately good for chilling or head banging.
