Big Sean‘s Better Me Than You is officially out for the world to hear, and he rolled out the red carpet for the release by pairing it with the official music video for “Who You Are (Superstar).” The clip features cameos from Taye Diggs, RDC World, Jazz Cartier, Amine, and others, who all play phone operators that specialize in smooth-talking women.
The video opens up with a commercial that encourages viewers to call 1-800-SUP-STRR and speak with one of their trained professionals. “Let me tell you, we can help you be all who you think you can be,” Diggs says to the camera.
“Who You Are (Superstar)” is an extra special cut from the LP because it contains a sample of Usher’s classic hit “Superstar.” The Detroit rapper takes inspiration from the subject matter of the OG song, as he raps about having eyes for only that one special person: “These b**ches finna hate you, you a superstar/ You know who you was, I know who you are/ F**kin’ with a n**ga, love to take it too far/ You the one that they got up on mood board/ When I flick you from the back, you a superstar.”
The Dark Sky Paradise rapper also revealed that Ush himself approved of the record. “I just want to say, when I played this for the artist who I sampled, he was like, ‘F**k!’” Sean exclaimed during a live interview with Carl Lamarre in NYC earlier this week.
Better Me Than You boasts a roster of impressive features from names like Charlie Wilson, Gunna, Eryn Allen Kane, Syd, Thundercat, Bryson Tiller, Kodak black, Teyana Taylor, Larry June, Cash Cobain, DJ Premier, and more across 21 total tracks.
Although Big Sean seems to be in great spirits now that the album is out, the journey to unleash the project has not been easy. Earlier this month, the father of one took to Instagram Live to update fans on why the album has been pushed back multiple times, as he opened up about his doubts and recent COVID diagnosis.
“I’ve been having a hard time lately, straight up. It has not been easy,” he told his followers. “You make art, you put your heart into this sh*t… When I had COVID last week, I was down and I was still working on the album.”
All in all, he made it to the finish line. Better Me Than You is officially out today, and you can check it out below and watch the new video above.
